★ 3 · amanda cox · 2009-08-05I was just reading a recent review on here of a dive trip in Larnaca and diving the Zenobia. I wanted to add (what I can remember) of my own experience in Cyprus. My husband and I dived with Cydive, one of the biggest on the island. We were based in Paphos and dived every day twice a day. In all honesty, I thought the dive outfit was OK, a bit big for my liking, I prefer something smaller and more personal. We certainly clicked with a couple of the guys there, who were very nice, but I thought some of them were inexperienced and lacked any sense of charisma or the likeability factor - moody I would describe them. This was two years ago though! The Zenobia trip was a long trek, early start to get there and led by the aforementioned inexperienced DMs, who it was difficult to even get conversation out of! The Zenobia dives are serious depths and no mucking about. I went in, dropped like a lead weight (well you would) and felt as if I was going into the abyss. All was Ok and we had two great dives - at one stage I was dumping air instead of adding it into my BCD, but at about 38m I would like to think it was narcosis, but I suspect it was just stupidity! The penetration is great especially seeing the carpet on the wall to your right (!) and coffee machine still in tact - not sure about sunken treasure though! I would love to do it again, but would probably start in Larnaca - Paphos isn't that great anyway, like being at home - full of Brits! Unfortunately Cyprus is rubbish for any kind of fish life, but underwater archeology is great and the wrecks are superb.
