★ 5 · Jose C. · 2009-09-21As a result of glowing reviews, we decided to give Barefoot Cay a try. Best decision ever. The lure to Barefoot Cay, of course, was the scuba diving. The professionalism and expertise of the dive team surpasses any destination we have ever visited. Never experienced valet diving? Then Barefoot Divers should be at the top of your “to-do” list. Doug and Michelle, both Dive Masters, go above and beyond to assure your diving experience is the absolute best. Their dive boats are well kept and no more that 6-8 divers occupy one boat. Two dive boats are onsite and available at all times. Underwater video taping of your dive is yours for the asking. Doug will create an unforgetable DVD of your dive and prices are very reasonable. Beautiful dive site are a short distance away. A trip to West End (West Bay) will be on your agenda. Three dives per day- lots of beauty to explore. If you go, be sure to ask Doug or Michelle about the ginormous crab. On the Barefoot Cay Divers website you will notice beautiful photographs of the dive shop, boats, accommodatons and the resort in general. What you see on the website is what you get...first class. The resort is pristine and the grounds and rooms are meticulously maintained daily. Whichever accommodation you choose; a bungalow, a loft over the dive shop or one of the villas, you will not be disappointed. Each one is beautifully decorated (casual elegant). The “heavenly” beds are truly that, with wonderful linens; and the Balinese showers are a fresh and unique touch to the entire ambiance. Should you decide to create meals in your own quarters, all the necessary, up-to-date tools and equipment are at your disposal. A trip to the local supermarket can yield everything you need to stock up on supplies for the week. We opted for the all-inclusive. What a stellar decision. Every dish we selected was a fresh, delicious, gourmet presentation. Those angels in the kitchen must have years of cooking experience! If there is something you desire that is not on the menu, simply ask; these wonderful ladies will do everything possible to accommodate your request. Our special thanks, to Haydee, Darren, Lauren and Carmen whose never ending smiles kept us coming back for more...…great food and great friendship. Barefoot Cay is on the breezy side of the island and the sand fleas were minimal to none. Definitely bring inspect spray, especially if you plan to visit the west side of Roatan. The sand fleas are quite prevalent there. We felt quite lucky to encounter only a few bites, which were the result of our trip to West Bay and West End. The Cactus Juice products work great as mentioned in prior reviews. If you cannot locate the Cactus Juice products in your area, visit their website: cactusjuice.com; prices are reasonable. You might consider purchasing some 98% Deet spray; it can be found in the camping section at your local sporting goods store. This was suggested to us by a couple we met at Barefoot Cay. Our trip would not have been possible without Mel’s help and patience with our reservation. Both Mel and Emily are in the office daily to book excursions or answer any questions you may have about the island or the resort itself. Thank you, Fernand for picking us up at the airport to start our fantastic vacation; and thank you Santos for safely driving us back to the airport for our return trip home. It was a sad day at Barefoot Cay to leave all our new friends behind. The Barefoot Cay owners, Melisse and John Kennedy reside on property and are always available to all guests. Thank you both for making Barefoot Cay and Barefoot Divers a special and unique destination. It is your attention to all the details that sets Barefoot Cay apart from all other resorts on Roatan. We look forward to returning soon.
