About Damai I

The Damai I is a luxurious liveaboard offering unforgettable diving adventures in Indonesia's most biodiverse waters. Backed by over 25 years of expertise, the operation brings deep knowledge of the Coral Triangle, where vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life await. This traditional wooden yacht runs personalised service for small groups, which makes it well suited to divers who want remote, pristine dive sites rather than crowds.

Diving and life on board

As a PADI Dive Boat working the Moluccas, the Damai I offers enriched air (Nitrox), and its facilities lean practical: warm-water showers, a battery charging station, Fish ID and diving books, and Wi-Fi for a fee. English is spoken, with other languages available on request.

The yacht spans 40 metres and holds seven air-conditioned staterooms — Single, Twin, Double and Master — each with en-suite bathroom. Between dives there are three large decks with sun and shade, massage and spa treatments, and an air-conditioned salon and bar. Three gourmet meals a day come from the onboard chef, using locally sourced ingredients across buffet and à la carte dishes.

I've been on the trip to Raja Ampat, the Banda Islands and Ambon. The Damai I is one of the best ways to dive these colourful reefs. Spacious and stylish cabins, sunny and shaded decks and very comfortable dive stations. Each diver has it's own area for his equipment with even a personal fresh water bucket. This "pirate-style" boat is beautiful, but what really makes the difference is the service. The staff is professional and friendly, they take care of everything from you, just relax and enjoy the diving. What I also really liked is that the dive groups are small, maximum 4 divers per guide, and the dive time is unlimited, yes you hear that right, if you have air you can stay underwater (my record was 104 minutes ;)). Highly recommended!

We have just returned from a trip to West Papua and new liveaboard, Dive Damai. Sometimes, you can't put into words just how good something can be. When it comes to describing Damai take 'excellent', feed it into a Thesaurus and there you have it. That's the good news. The less good news is that unless you have a place already booked on this wonderful vessel you may have to wait a few years to get on. She is full for the forseeable future, so if you find a agent with a spare space, grab it.
