About MV Carpe Diem

Cruising the waters of South Malé Atoll, MV Carpe Diem is a 35-meter motor safari yacht built for divers who want to reach the Maldives' most iconic sites without giving up comfort. With room for 20 guests across 10 cabins on three decks, it keeps things intimate — and a brand-new main engine fitted in May 2025 means smooth, reliable cruising between dives.

Diving with Carpe Diem

All diving runs from a dedicated dhoni kitted out with a gear-up area, warm-water showers and its own Nitrox system, backed up by a small speedboat for easy logistics. Expect up to three dives a day, night dives included, guided by experienced instructors. Enriched air (Nitrox) is free of charge, rental gear is on hand, and PADI courses can be taken right on board — making this a solid fit for both certified divers and those looking to train as they go.

Between dives, guests can unwind in the air-conditioned lounge, browse the fish ID and diving books in the library, or soak up the sun on deck. English and Maldivian are spoken on board.

We dove on the Carpe Diem for the Deep North itinerary in October 2025. Overall it was an excellent trip. Predominantly pinnacle diving with great fish and reef macro life. We dove and observed some manta ray cleaning stations and saw some guitarfish! We lucked out and had great weather all but two days of the trip. If you’re interested in this route just keep in mind you run the risk of low visibility due to currents and plankton and Mother Nature in general changing the best laid plans by the guides. In general low amounts of other dive boats and Wild West feeling to the diving far outweighed any other risks for us personally. The staff handled the bad weather very well, safety was at the forefront and the captain went out of his way to keep the seas from tearing us up onboard. Our dive guides were Munkko (our group), Saaz and Wathey. They were all great but differed a bit in style, I highly suggest chatting with them to discuss what you are looking for to get yourself with the right guide and right group. The food was great but repetitive (chicken, tuna, salad, rice) beef and lamb were offered a few times. It was all delicious but just not a lot of variety (that may be standard for this region, to be clear this is our first trip here). I think they have a solid dive team, excellent captains and the sweetest staff. My only suggestion is to work on the social media for the boats and company in general, maybe an updated Instagram etc. The guides all had go pros so I’m sure they have some sick footage to share via their websites. Also, maybe add a captains log or dive guide log for the routes from time to time to allow people to get a better idea of what they may see? Overall, we had a great time and would definitely return for a new route.

What a Great liveaboard. I was satisfied with everything (Food, staff, diving points, even buddies). If you consider this boat for your trip, please do not hesitate to choose it. You will not regret that!

10 out of 10! I can’t imagine how a liveaboard experience could possibly be improved upon! Perfect in every aspect. Hats off to the scuba liveaboard company Carpe Diem and more specifically, to the boat and crew of their Carpe Nuvo, for providing such a wonderful and wonder-filled week. I would not consider booking a future trip to the Maldives with any other company. The 3 dives per day were all fantastic, highlighted with close up sightings of manta rays, whale sharks and other large sharks and rays, turtles, and a myriad of reef fishes and corals too numerous to count. One wreck dive was included in the mix. Their auxiliary dive boat, called a dohnie (sp?), transported us out to the dive sites. It was spacious with several shower stations, one with hot water. The rear dive platform allowed easy entry into the sea. After the last dive of the day the dohnie cruised away from the mother ship while the compressors were at work, thus not disturbing the peace and quietude aboard the mother ship, The dive guides were terrific and being a relatively new and nervous diver, I was diligently looked after, and the closest attention was paid to my needs. The equipment I rented was high quality and trouble free. Before each dive the guides conducted a thorough dive plan in a spacious, air conditioned salon. My cabin was commodious and comfortable with ample storage for all my belongings and a bathroom equal in size to the one in my home. The chef on board could easily be employed at any 5-star hotel in the world. My only possible complaint, which surely would be an accolade for most others, is that the food served was way too delicious and way too abundant. You will need a ton of willpower to resist the 20 food choices presented at each meal. Even if one took just a tiny bit from each offering it would easily overflow your plate. The food was so fantastic that most divers went for second and third helpings. The highlight of each meal was the freshest-caught fish presented in a multitude of ways. After the last dive of the day, a hot snack of some sort was waiting. A most refreshing draft Carlsburg beer in a frozen mug, perfectly poured, was the icing on the cake! Wine drinkers, I noted, were similarly pleased with the boat’s selection. I absolutely trust the Carpe Diem Co. to do the right thing for their customers. I was booked on this tour 4 months previously but on a practice dive the day before embarkation I suffered a mask squeeze that turned my eyes zombie-red and so I could not go on my scheduled trip. Bernie, one of their executives, helped me with my medical needs and most surprisingly offered me a full credit on a make-up cruise, which is the one reviewed above. If you are thinking about a Maldives liveaboard, I cannot recommend highly enough Carpe Diem. It will be impossible to find anything better. Sincerely, Reed Resnikoff.
