About Scuba Dogs @ Escambron Marine Park

Scuba Dogs @ Escambron Marine Park is a PADI Resort diving school founded in October 2000 by owners Elsa and Alberto Martí, born from a deep love for nature, the ocean and all its creatures. Calling themselves "The Diver's Best Friend," they've built a reputation for service in a pleasant, safe, fun and family environment.

Diving in Fajardo

Based in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, the centre offers PADI Scuba Diving and PADI Snorkelling, backed by a team of 10 PADI Instructors. A house reef sits right at the waterfront location, so there's plenty to explore close to shore.

The waters here host an impressive spread of marine life, from sharks, whales, turtles and rays to ocean fish, corals, anemones, eels and echinoderms, plus molluscs and crustaceans. On-site facilities include a retail shop, parking, air fills, and equipment sales and rental — including kids' sizes. With staff speaking both English and Spanish, it suits divers and snorkellers of all ages looking for a friendly, conservation-minded home base.

The staff is great and very friendly, especially Tito who was amazing. However, this little dive shop has some problems. They are located directly next to Escabron Marine park in an old public bathroom (seriously). My friends were doing their open water course and the staff said I could tag along on the final day. The visibility was horrible, less than 5 feet, and the Marine park was devoid of any real sea life. The staff insisted this was not the usual and only a temporary condition because of some recent bad weather, and they may be right, but they probably shouldn't have charged me and offered me the dive if they knew it was going to be soup out there. After a single dive of 40 minutes my friends were said to have completed their certification but I know they skipped over many of the tasks they should have completed. I think they were rushed through because of the bad visibility. Also, they were charged more than I've ever heard for the course. The rental gear I received was ok, the BCD had ripped pockets and the only wet suit they had was a little too big. While there, nobody asked to see my certification card and my friends and I weren't asked to fill out a medical questionnaire until after the dive. The staff was very nice in hooking us up with a dive shop in Fajordo who took us on a 2 tank boat dive for a good price.
