★ 4 · CLINTON O. · 2022-03-15The resort is very nice. Food is just OK, but you could say that about most all inclusive places. Dive shop was great and the staff were great. I highly recommend them.
★ 5 · Eugene M. · 2022-01-06My wife and I travel into Cozumel regularly from the states and have stayed in several all inclusive resorts. Our last stay at the Occidental was in 2016 and felt it was time to return, which we did, in December 2021. We booked through PADI travel which was in itself a great experience. First time doing that. Book online with great rates and if you have questions call them - extremely helpful! The Occidental was great once again. The resort staff is friendly and very easy to communicate with. We tend to use a form of mixed English and Spanish and often forget and mix in Italian. All good wonderful people. The food exceeded expectations. If you spend much time reading these reviews you may begin to question the food during covid pandemic. We found the food to be very good. Perhaps a little more variety at lunch buffet would be nice, but we were pleased with the offering so all good here. The rooms are spacious and clean and we love how the resort is nestled into the jungle. Very different from other nearby resorts. Unable to really comment on most resort amenities other than the ProDive Center. This was a scuba trip and that was mostly all we did. ProDive handles multiple boats across multiple resorts and they have a great deal of organization built into this operation. I was expecting perhaps more confusion and frankly experienced none. Lila helped from the counter and aligned my wife and I with divers with similar experience. We appreciated that. All DM's were professional and friendly and worked to help identify both small and large sea life. I do wish that ProDive as well as other operations in Mexico would spend more time on boat safety briefing as opposed to just dive site briefings. I do like to know where the O2 is stored on the boat and the radio channels if help is needed. If you have preferences and knowledge of dive sites, speak to Lila she is great. I also recommend you seek out Consuelo at the shop - he handles your dive gear. Let him know your return travel schedule and he is awesome at helping you get dried out. I wish I remembered more names of those I encountered, but I honestly don't recall anyone who was less than friendly. Probably why I keep returning to this island. Well that and the diving. Every dive was a plethora of attractions - multiple eagle rays literally every dive. Hawk bill turtles, eels and all the expected reef fish. Was surprised to not see any sharks on this trip. Oh well, will have to come back. What we enjoy most about diving the southern reefs are the giant coral heads we get to swim through, between and all around. Feels like another world! I hope you take something from this review that motivates you to go for it! Oh and the covid testing to return home was simple and rather inexpensive if your home country accepts the rapid test. Arranged and tested all from the resort.
★ 4 · Stuart M. · 2022-01-05Great diving on the first 2 days of the trip. 3rd day started with boat problems due to weather. Morning dives were cancelled because of the mechanical problem. The shop gave us a voucher for an extra double tank dive per diver for the inconvenience. The following 2 days had high winds and all diving was cancelled. We were provided a voucher good for 3 years for our missed dives including the extra dives. I think it was well handled, machines break and nobody can control the weather.
