I had booked 6 dives with Plumeria Maldives, Thinadhoo, Vaavu Atoll for 4 days during the fist week of October 2019. Island: The island is very small and has 5 resorts in total including Plumeria. The island is private and beautiful. Bikini beach at the west end is a lovely place to enjoy colorful sunsets everyday, which is a 1 min walk from Plumeria. And the sunrise beach is right next to the Plumeria property. In fact the whole island is only a few acres and has resorts in one side and thick green forest which is pretty small that we can call it a garden. Resort: The resort has 4 - 5 buildings and closely built with a private beach area. It's a quaint beautiful place. The rooms were suites and had all the luxury of a 4 star hotel. We stayed at the Plumeria boutique building at the 3rd floor which had a sea view. This building is not right on the Beach, but the 3 floors rooms at the western end gives a good sea view. There are other houses and local villagers. But they are only a handful. Literally handful and mostly they work for the resorts in the island. Food: I had booked full board. I recommend to book your meals with Plumeria as there is no restaurant or local cuisine that you go out and try. It's a very small island and has a few shops that sells fruits, snacks, souvenirs, swimsuits, T shirts. The shops are mostly closed. So the resort is the only and best option you have. For a Maldivian small private island the food at the resort was good. As food is imported all over the island nation and fish is a the only locally available food, every resort in Maldives have to make do with the supply they get. But Plumeria does a great effort in providing a variety for its guests. The soups and main course for all the days and all 3 meals of a day were different. Room service is available. They have fresh fruits all the time. Service: We were welcomed at the arrival by Cliff and ushered to the waiting area. We were taken on a private speedboat with few other Plumeria guests on a 1.5 hr boat ride. The day was sunny. Upon arrival at the island, we were greeted by a team of ushers. Mr. Chris had a warm smile and explained us about the island and the resort as we walked to the rooms. In the evening we had an orientation about the facilities and rules in the island. The reception was open 24 hrs and eve around the island has a smile and willing to take your questions or requests whenever you pass them by. Chris, Sam, Sripathy are always ready to make arrangements for you or clarify questions when you ask. Room service and housekeeping were prompt and available during the waking hours. Dive center: Plumeria Dive center is the only diving and water sports place in the island and caters to all the resorts in the small island. Since it was the start of the season there was one dive instructor (Issac) and few dive asters. Issac gave a lot of info about the reef and suggestions on skills. Since I was the only diver during my period of stay and had booked dives for all the days of my stay, I had the whole experience exclusive for me. Maxander (Mac ) deserves a special mention. He was a great dive buddy and took care of everything for all the dives and answered all my queries regarding the reefs and fishes. It was raining during the first and third day of my stay. The wind and the current were pretty strong and we had to cancel dives for one day. But we caught up on the last day with 4 dives thereby finishing all my pre booked dives. The dive boat is great with facilities. Fresh cut fruits are served on boat during the surface interval. Dive spots: I had all my 6 dives at 6 different spots. Island house reefs and few special places. Mostly the spots were not too far. Each spot was absolutely breath taking and beautiful. The Golden wall and Ali Manta are the best in my list. We couldn't go to the certain other spots which were pretty far as it requires a group of minimum 6 divers. That's were the hammerheads and other pelagic marine life are. So I was told. The visibility was great even during the rains. Water temperature was pleasant irrespective of the weather above the surface. The Lobsters, sting rays, Eagle rays Octopuses and eels were shy. But the Twany Nurse sharks were super friendly at Alimanta. The dive resorts also feeds the sharks and sting rays at 7pm every day near the Plumeria beach and you can see them right from the shore. There are other water activities for non divers as well. Things that could be better: Cable TV for rooms instead of satellite TV. When the rains were heavy and we could not go out, the TV wasn't working as the satellite dish does not receive during rough weather. The dump yard inside the forested area can be covered or hidden or better cleared off if possible. Or you can cordon off the area for guests. The place has so much plastic and kind of spoils the look and feel of the island. Coconuts were available in plenty around the island. But we were not offered tender coconut water during the stay. My suggestion using more coconut produce in serving guests would give a local touch to the experience. As my stay was from Monday to Friday i did not get enjoy any of the weekend specialists like cultural music/ dance Show or beach barbecues during dinner time. My suggestion is that it would be great to have these at least one day during the mid-week. Otherwise my experience was good. Overall experience : Great Rating : 4.9/5
