Mirage Divers

Very friendly & welcoming staff at MIRAGE dive centre, managed by Shady. Ideally located between the Lighthouse & Eel Garden dive sites. Facilities at the centre were great, with a small cafe on site, outdoor seating, classrooms, huge rinse tank, drying areas and a locker for each diver to store all their gear. We booked a private dive guide for the 2 of us - one newly certified & one experienced. This allowed us to go at our own pace, & select dive profiles that suited our needs. Before departure from the dive centre each day, they checked we had O2, a first aid kit, & spares kit, tanks, weights & all equipment. Our dive guides (Anne, Tim & Ahmed) provided thorough briefings, were safety conscious & knowledgeable of dive sites. Ahmed had a particularly good eye for spotting critters - highlights of the trip being the large painted frogfish (at a secret location!) and a thorny seahorse. Also saw numerous pipefish, various nudibranchs, sea moths, etc. Dives averaged 60 minutes+ , with a relaxing lunch break between dives. The vast majority of our diving was shore based, with each dive area having shaded seating and a bar/cafe on site. We repeated a couple of sites - due to high winds making some areas inaccessible, but also on request if there was an area we particularly liked. For the critter/photo fanatic, I recommend 'Bannerfish Bay' - lots of sea grass & sandy 'muck' areas! Also 'The Caves' - entry/exit can be a bit challenging depending on conditions, but this is also a great area for nudibranchs & pipefish etc. 'The Islands' has the most spectacular hard coral formations. We also did 2 days of boat diving which allowed us to travel a little further afield. The boat "Romy" was spacious & well equipped, with a helpful crew, & they served excellent lunches! Would highly recommend MIRAGE to divers of all experience levels - they know their 'stuff' and are full of enthusiasm....just so long as the water temp. doesnt get too cold! Thanks for great trip!

Mirage divers has a great setup at the end of the Dahab "strip" - (keep going past the lighthouse). Operated by Shady (only name and not by nature) they offer a professional service with good outlook on life. They offer dives to the usual hotspots (blue hole, etc) but if you're a little more flexible and tell them the sort of dives you like then they'll do everything to accommodate. I spent most of my time with Synthia - a Deep Dive speciality instructor (and tec diver) at some of the less frequented dive sites (slightly more difficult) but worth the effort. Best dives were Blue Hole (down to 40m with Padi Speciality), Tiger, Ricks and the Canyon.

Great experience at Mirage Divers : the team is very professional (and friendly !) Everything is well organized, diving equipment is new and good quality, instructors are professional. I am really happy to say that I am now Open water and advanced open water diver !!!! Thanks a lot to the team (Shady, Cynthia and Mike and John and Anke and ...). It was a pleasure to learn with you. If you want to learn diving in total security and have fun, do not hesitate : choose Mirage Divers center !! Sorry for my English I am French !
