Papalagi Diving School Shinjuku

Now in its 40th year, Papalagi Diving School Shinjuku anchors a network of 11 shops across Tokyo and Kanagawa that members are free to use. It's a PADI 5 Star IDC centre where beginners and aspiring professionals alike can earn certifications on flexible schedules — weekday, weekend or consecutive days — with license courses running daily and a minimum of just one participant at no extra charge.

Training built on experience

Ocean sessions take place at the Jōgasaki Coast, around an hour and a half from Tokyo Station, with the Izu base a five-minute walk from the water. Pool work uses a dedicated indoor heated diving pool alongside a 25m pool. More than 40 full-time staff instructors, developed through over 90 days of annual training, keep quality high.

Beyond the coursework, gourmet gatherings, ocean seminars and stays at the Guesthouse Alohana turn learning into friendships. Facilities include air conditioning and a retail shop, with equipment sales and rental on hand. Instruction is offered in Japanese.
