★ 5 · James K. · 2020-05-29The divemasters at Barefoot, Ron and Danny, are the best we've had in all the resorts/liveaboards we've used in the past three years. The staff goes out of their way to help you do whatever you'd like to do on the island. We made a quick cab ride (driver even waits while you shop) to Eldon's supermarket and grabbed groceries for the week. Want to visit the sloths - front desk will call you a cab and off you go! The diving in Roatan is INCREDIBLE. The reefs are full of life and Ron will help you find whatever critter you'd like to see. The resort itself is like your own private getaway. So often we felt like we were the only one at the resort. We'll be back again soon!
★ 4 · Elisa L. · 2019-03-21We will be returning to this resort as soon as next year because it was the most relaxing & romantic vacation my husband and I have had since our honeymoon 12 years ago. The gourmet meals were incredible. The ocean-view room was a spacious, fully-equipped apartment. My favorite things about the room were the enormous shower, very large and comfy bed, and every afternoon after we dived, we’d leave the balcony door open to feel cool breezes inside. The staff were very friendly and willing to answer questions. The pool area was a great quiet place to lounge and read a book. And conveniently right next to the restaurant Noni so I could quickly order a pina colada and enjoy poolside. There weren’t any children splashing water every which way and screaming. Children are allowed here but the resort is very small so there weren’t many guests period. We had fun snorkeling off the dock on the first day. There are a ton of fish under the palapa. My husband and I both had massages at the spa. I also had a cacao body scub. We both loved our treatments and were impressed at how strong Doris’s little hands are. I highly recommend pampering yourself at this spa. We dived every morning for 4 days. This was our first diving trip. We’ve been open water certified for almost 1 year. Anyway, I always felt safe with each dive master and knew I was with someone knowledgable as they always laid out our dive plan beforehand. They also pulled me down by my flippers when I started to ascend unexpectedly, and they constantly checked up on me while diving. There was one time when my dive master helped me put on my fins in the boat but then underwater, one of them came off completely (my husband helped me put it back on) and when I felt the other coming loose, I fixed it myself. Also, the dive center once switched my BCD with my husband’s BCD and we hadn’t checked before that dive so we dived with each other’s BCDs on. They’re dive rental equipment is well maintained. I did not like that the go-to taxi driver for the hotel, Ken, charges a flat rate of $30/hour no matter where he takes you on the island. He didn’t have a meter in his car either. Next time, we might rent our own car (you can arrange this through the concierge) or catch the bus which stops at the end of the resort’s driveway. My other complaint is not about the resort but about PADI Travel Team. We had pre-booked 9 dives/person for our trip but we only did 8 because on Day 2 I had to surface before the other divers (can’t remember why) & then got seasick on the boat so we only did one dive that day and on Day 5 my husband had pain due to swimmer’s ear so we also only did one dive that day. But when I asked for credit on my credit card for those 2 dives which we did not do, I was denied. That’s not good business practice. If I had booked through the resort instead of PADI, I’m sure they would have given me a refund.
