About Amaya Explorer

The Amaya Explorer is a traditional Phinisi built for divers who want Indonesia at its widest. Over the course of a season she works Raja Ampat, Alor, Maumere, Bali, Komodo and the Banda Sea, with routes running out of Labuan Bajo, Alor, Ambon and Sorong — so the water you drop into changes as thoroughly as the coastline you wake up to.

The diving is the point. Komodo National Park delivers Crystal Rock, Castle Rock, Gili Lawa Laut and Gili Lawa Darat; further afield there's the Dampier Strait, Gunung Api and the Banda Sea. The Labuan Bajo round trip runs six nights with roughly 14 dives, opening with a check dive at Pulau Sabayor Mini Wall. Open Water certification and 20 logged dives are the minimum. Nitrox is available, and the dive deck is purpose-built and shaded, with DIN adaptors, rinse hoses and a separate rinse for underwater cameras.

Between dives

Eight cabins take up to 17 guests, all en-suite and air-conditioned, with a naturalist guide aboard and a crew-to-guest ratio of nearly 1:1. There's a sun deck, an air-conditioned saloon, kayaks, outdoor dining and gourmet Indonesian cooking to come back to.
