Pemba Island, Tanzania · Dive Center
Plan this trip with AI →On the south-west coast of Pemba Island, Tanzania — Zanzibar's sister island to the north — Fundu Lagoon's in-house 710 Dive Centre is a PADI 5-Star Dive Resort run by a friendly, experienced team. It's the base for beginner's courses, advanced instruction and guided day or night dives, with all the equipment you need supplied in resort.
Diving here is predominantly drift and wall diving — described as the most exhilarating drift diving in East Africa. Across 25 snorkelling and dive sites, kept untouched by the Misali Island Marine Conservation Area, expect schooling barracuda, giant trevallies, napoleon wrasse, huge groupers, turtles, and blue-spotted, blotched fantail eagle and manta rays among thousands of reef fish. The terrain holds gorgonian sea fans, giant sponges, ancient cabbage corals and the odd shipwreck.
Average visibility runs 20 to 40 metres, peaking from October to March when seas are calmest, with warm water of 27 to 28°C. The centre stocks 3mm full-length wetsuits plus ScubaPro and Aqualung gear, and the team speaks English, Spanish and French.
