Plan this trip with AI →On the remote and beautiful island of Karpathos, Karpathos Diving Center (KDS) holds a special place in local diving history. After Greek law changed to permit underwater activity, KDS became the first diving school established here in early 2007. The office sits in the centre of Pigadia, the island's capital, beside the big church of Aghi Apostoli.
As a PADI 5 Star Dive Center with five PADI instructors, KDS runs training in small groups to the standards of PADI International, with a strong focus on safety and protecting the underwater environment. Choose from 15 courses and activities, including the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course over roughly three days, or a half-day dive trip for certified divers lasting about five hours.
The Karpathian Sea remains largely virgin diving territory, with Mediterranean marine life and underwater visibility of more than 25 metres. With modern facilities, a waterfront location, a dive boat, Nitrox, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi, KDS suits anyone keen to explore Karpathos beneath the surface, in English, Greek or Polish.

★ 5 · Linda Marsh · 2009-09-30I booked two dives in the morning with Stratos, the director of the Karpathos Diving Centre. As it was towards the end of the season I had a full choice of dive sites - all very clearly explained. We met up and he equipment was all very good as promised. Another less experienced diver joined us and he was also briefed and checked - he had been allowed to join us as it was a suitable site for novices. His briefing on-site was very clear and thorough. He went at the right speed for me to take photos and helped sort out some problems with my camera settings and took some photos of me as well which was much appreciated. He was very good at pointing out fish, which I had said was my main interest. Sadly, like the rest of the Med there aren't as many as there should be. Stratos had set up the dive centre 2 years ago as he was fed up with being asked to look after groups that were too large on another island and wanted more control. He now restricts group sizes - I think he said to a maximum of 8 if experienced. He was a very competent and enjoyable person to dive with - I'd have no hesitation recommending him.
