Sandford & Down Diver Training

Set on the Plymouth waterfront, Sandford & Down Diver Training is a PADI Dive Centre built on deep roots — Sandford & Down is one of the oldest dive shops in the UK, established in 1964. Today its experienced team of six PADI Instructors welcomes both newcomers and qualified divers, with access to some of the best diving on the UK South Coast all year round.

Courses and diving

New divers can begin with the PADI Open Water Referral Part 1/2, covering theory and pool training over roughly two days from USD 311. The full PADI Open Water Diver Course runs about four days from USD 899, while a combined Open Water Diver and Dry Suit Diver option is available from USD 1175 — a natural fit for cooler local water.

Beyond training, there's a year-round Dive Club and away trips organised roughly twice a year to the Mediterranean and Red Sea. Local diving takes in wrecks, sea life, and clean-up and environmental projects in and around Plymouth. It suits divers who want proper qualifications and an active club close to home.
