Ambon - Banda Neira - Misool - Waisai10 nights · 25 dives
  1. 1
    Day 1

Safety Briefing, Crew Introduction, Necessary Dive Paperwork, Cabin allocation and ship orientation will take place before departing the Harbour. During the journey to our first dive site for a check dive, please take this opportunity to familiarize yourselves with the vessel and make yourself comfortable. Set the sail, first stop in the Banda Sea, Suanggi. The crossing from Ambon to Suanggi is the first of 5 overnight voyages and takes approximately fourteen hours, bringing you in a prime spot for an early morning dives. With Suanggi being a rather exposed location, it is not uncommon to continue directly to Banda Neira, revisiting as conditions improve. Please Note: This is a sample itinerary and nº of dives, dive sites, etc. may be subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforseeable factors

  2. 2
    Day 2

With favorable seas, we wake up next to the island of Suanggi, a fire like sunrise and Banda Neira’s 'Gunung Api’ volcano reaching to the clouds at distance. Suanggi hosts a large colony of sea birds; Frigates, which, if your cruise director has not done so already, will wake you up. After coffee, a check dive on one the islands sheltered reefs to become familiar with our operation, and for us to assess the abilities and requirements of the dive group. Breakfast, followed by two extremely special dives, if very lucky, a chance to see Hammerhead sharks patrolling the wall drop offs and deep ridges. After three dives, we set sail into the sunset for Banda Neira, looking out for Sailfish breaching, Dolphins and Whales, that are common during this two hour crossing. The night is spent on anchor in the heart of the historic Banda islands.

  3. 3
    Day 3

The Banda region is made up of small clusters of islands and a towering volcano, where you will spend three days exploring, diving nine or ten incredibly different locations. Riddled with imperial history relating to the conflicts between the British, Dutch and Portuguese, land missions, spice trading locations and forts visits are not to be missed. Pulau Ai and Pulau Run are just a short sail from Banda Besar and home to some very exciting dive sites, ranging from furied drift dives to mystic secluded bays, the currents are generally quite strong in these areas making for excellent and rich reef life. A famous dive site by the name of 'Lava Flow' sits very close to Banda Neira, directly beneath the volcano, created by the flow of lava that rushed into the ocean and destroyed everything in its path. With only twenty years passed, since the eruption, the condition and rapid growth of the newly made reef will take your breath away. Batu Kapal, a two dive location, with its astonishingly varied topography is another clear favorite in this region. For our final day in Banda, we sail south east, to Pulau Hatta, once occupied by the Dutch... Sitting atop an extremely deep trench of 5000m, it is a fantastic spot to conclude activities in this area.

  6. 6
    Day 6

A fourteen to sixteen hour, overnight crossing brings us to Pulau Koon, a small island sat south east of mainland Seram, and, the midpoint of our trip. With a large reef plateau jumping right off of the island, the most exciting feature here is, without a doubt, the huge amount of schooling and hunting fish species, that can be seen at the very aptly named ‘Fish market’. Slowly moving along the wild and vivid coral slopes in the currents and back eddies, being approached by curious Mackerel and Tuna, surmises a not so typical day. After two dives on this absolutely fantastic reef, late afternoon, we begin our crossing to Misool, Raja Ampat.

  7. 7
    Day 7

Arrival Misool, home to the best coral growth on planet earth. Huge Gorgonian Sea Fans, big pinnacles and button islands, we have reached a true diver paradise. The final three days of the voyage will be spent here, and with it being home to literally hundreds of dive sites, not one trip will ever be the same. We aim to visit our favorite sites whilst here, safety and weather depicting. Incredibly healthy coral formations, Pygmy Sea Horses, huge pelagic fish, Oceanic Mantas and much, much more, this place has it all. A fantastic time to see the blooms of Silverside bait fish, responsible for initiating large feeding frenzies. Dive sites such as ‘Magic Mountain’ and ‘Four Kings’, ‘Wedding Cake’ and ‘Goa Farondi’ are just a few to names, to add to the perfection Misool has to offer. Exploring the turquoise lagoons by kayak is always a great little adventure after a diving day. We set sail to Sorong on day ten, just as the sun is setting.

In the afternoon, we dive at Mike's Point, during World War II, the US Air Force mistook this rock for a camouflaged Japanese ship and bombed it repeatedly... The top side of the island is blown away, but underwater the reef has come back to life in an amazing way.

    Day 10

We save the very best for last. During our final diving day we discover two fabulous dive sites, Blue Magic and Cape Kri... Both of these sites offer some of the largest concentrations of big fish in Raja Ampat. Large schools of hunting Trevally, Chevron Barracuda, Bannerfish, Giant Sweetlips, Yellow Fin Tuna and big Red Snapper congregate on these sites. Large Grey Reef Sharks can also be seen at Cape Kri. In the afternoon, we have time to relax on one of Kri’s secluded beaches...

    Day 11

While we sail back to Waisai enjoy breakfast, and the last exchange of photos and memories, the crew and Akomo Isseki will say their fond farewells Unfortunately our trip has come to an end and we have to say goodbye, but we hope to see you again soon!

Getting there

Sorong (available till October 2026 - charges apply) For guests arriving at Sorong Airport on the day of departure, transfers to the ferry terminal are arranged. A driver will meet them at the arrivals exit holding a name board. Guests staying overnight in Sorong will be picked up from their hotel lobby on the day of departure and transferred to the ferry terminal. Transfers from the airport to the hotel must be arranged independently (taxis are readily available). Please note that, due to ferry schedules, same-day connections from flights arriving later in the day may not be possible. Starting from October 2026, transfers from Sorong will no longer be arranged. Guests will be required to make their own way to Waisai Harbour and arrive by 12:00 noon on the day of departure. Waisai Upon arrival in Waisai, guests will be greeted at the ferry terminal by Alex or a dive guide holding a name board. Guests are strongly recommended to stay overnight in Waisai the day prior to departure, as ferry schedules from Sorong may not align with flight arrival times. In particular, guests arriving late in Sorong may miss the last available ferry connection to Waisai. For itineraries starting or ending in Waisai, guests should check the Sorong–Waisai ferry schedule in advance, as times may change without notice. Depending on flight schedules, an overnight stay in Sorong or Waisai before or after the trip may be required. The ferry, operated by Belibis Group, takes approximately two hours. Tickets are typically available at the terminal on the day of departure. Taxis are available from Sorong Airport to the ferry terminal. Please note that some morning ferries from Sorong to Waisai (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) have been cancelled due to schedule changes, so planning ahead is essential.

I have never done a dive liveaboard before this trip, so I really did not have that much experience with others. However, being on Akomo Isseki set my standard for liveaboard diving very high. The crew onboard were some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met in my life. The guides were also amazing and experienced! Just watch out for Alex! If you ever played Uno with them and you lost, you would have to help them massage for 20 times. Just an example of how close we were with the dive team at the end of the trip. Because they keep the group size small (8 people), you are going to be well taken care of and the food onboard is delicious! We did more dives than it was written on the website (this really depends on the conditions). I was a bit worried about the cabin since it has no AC onboard; however, there is no problem for me to sleep at night. It might get a bit too warm at noon, but most of us usually took a nap at the sun deck instead. Overall, I highly recommend this liveaboard to anyone, who wants an ultimate experience of diving in Komodo.

Our New-Year’s Trip on board Akomo isseki, with Alex, the cruise director and Yetno, the Second Dive Guide, was a trip of a lifetime, that I can not really praise enough. From all the liveaboards I have done in the past, this one, by far, was the most outstanding one. The first thing I want to mention, is the positive energy and vibes, start to finish, from every single person on board. Every member of this crew was so full of happiness, it was infectious, and truly made every day special. The whole crew felt like they were a deeply connected family, and they allowed us, the guest to be part of that. It felt like we all became family by the end of the trip, having shared so many stories and laughter together. The organization, communication, and scheduling of day-to-day trips, diving and traveling in between islands was fantastic. Alex and Yetno did a fantastic job, briefing every dive, and showed that despite 8 years living in the area, and 3000+ dives there, they are still excited to jump into the water, and continue to be fascinated by the underwater world there. We loved every single dive, especially those frequently not visited by other boats, which ended up being some of our favorites. The occasional day-trips to e.g. snorkel with baby sharks, alongside a beautiful BBQ prepared by the crew on a beach, were some other highlights, that made the itinerary very special. Speaking of food, the crew on board made the most amazing food, varying on the daily, even baking fresh bread every morning, and prepared little in-between snacks, not allowing even the hungriest of people to ever get hangry. Overall, I can truly just recommend this boat to everyone, that is looking for a family-vibe kind of trip, with great diving, professional guides and well-maintained boat and equipment, spectacular food and a true love for the region, ensuring that local marine life is protected.

Experience of a lifetime! Raja Ampat is incredibly beautiful and Alex runs a smooth operation - dives are amazing (and they do put a effort to provide variety and great dives), dive guides and crew are highly experienced, logistics are smooth, crew/staff are the best - the friendliest / happiest ever, and there are nice land stops. I would def and most absolutely love to come back! Tips: - Do not suffer alone with logistics questions - ask PADI for a very complete guide that Alex prepared on how to get to/from Waisai (PADI does not always provide it proactively. If they don't, just Whatsapp Alex on the number provided in the booking confirmation) - Bring a current hook if you have one (otherwise they have it onboard) - Ask in advance if you want a 15L tank (currents can be strong so if you're not good at air consumption, may be good to consider) - Bring cash for tips & download/register on the Wise app to wire/pay for extras - Another guest had a drone and captured some really cool footage! So bring it if you have one! (besides an underwater camera) - It helped to have one of those reusable grocery bags with me to hang my stuff in the bathroom while I showered / got ready in the morning + a reusable water bottle to carry around - No need to overdo the wetsuit - half of us dived with no wetsuit and the other half with thin 2mm/shorties - No need to bring sneakers/hiking shoes for the land excursions - I did everything on flip flops and it was totally fine - There are sodas and beer on the boat. A couple of guests brought other alcohol - wine / champagne for NYE and it was nice! Things to note (more as FYI; nothing is a deal breaker, REALLY): - There is no phone reception / internet for at least half the trip (in Misool), so i) if you e-mail/text them do it in advance; it may take a few days for them to get back to a place with reception and ii) be prepared to get offline for a couple of days - it feels great :) - No Nitrox available - Usually no night dives (at least none on my trip) - No aircon in the cabins (there is a small fan). It can get hot and may take a bit to get used to it (but it's def doable - or you do like I did - I slept outside a few evenings)
