Plan this trip with AI →Sail the storied waters of Indonesia aboard the Gaya Baru Indah, a traditional phinisi offering a budget-friendly way to explore Raja Ampat and Cenderawasih Bay. Built in 2013, this 27m boat keeps things intimate with a maximum of 8 guests and dive groups limited to 4 divers per guide — with free Nitrox included at no extra charge.
Departing from Waisai on Waigeo Island, the classic 7-night route cruises the Dampier Strait, West Waigeo, Aljui Bay and the Pianyemo islands, taking in roughly 18 dives across some of Indonesia's finest sites, including the Banda Sea. Expect hard coral reefs with occasional soft and black coral, and large schools of Trevally, Barracuda, Fuselier and Surgeonfish. Manta Rays and sharks — among them the bottom-dwelling Wobbegong — are spotted regularly.
Back on board, four air-conditioned seaview cabins, a shaded dive deck with rinse hoses and a separate camera rinse, an indoor saloon, library and observation deck round out a boat custom built for diving. Advanced Open Water certification with 30 logged dives is required.
