Mantamae staff will pick you up at Labuan Bajo airport in Flores and accompany you to the dock for immediate boarding and departure. During a light lunch you will be briefed on Manta Mae and, depending on the time of your arrival, will also be briefed on the “check dive”. The small island of Sebayur offers nice diving just a few miles from Labuan Bajo’s harbour. Sebayur Kecil and Mini Wall are perfect for warm-up dives and you are likely to see bronze sweepers, lionfish, eels, and possibly the resident ghost pipefish. The staggered tiers of the neighboring patch reef are home to many different species of nudibranchs, pipefish, sea fans, sponges and even a few twin-spot lionfish. In addition to diving day-time, we’ll offer a night dive every day if conditions are favorable. Please Note: This is a sample itinerary and nº of dives, dive sites, etc. may be subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforseeable factors
Two celebrated dive sites await you just north of Gili Lawa Laut Island. Crystal Rock and Castle Rock are both incredible locations, boasting the key elements for any impressive dive site: a wide variety of healthy corals covering the reef, plus tons of fish both big and small and all sizes in between! Cauldron is another exhilarating dive site, and the healthy hard coral reefs off the island of Gili Lawa Darat offer good night diving. Between dives, you may visit Gili Lawa Laut Island for a short trek to the top of the hill for a wonderful view over the Komodo-Flores channel. Crystal Rock: The rock jutting out of the surrounding crystal-clear waters explains how this site got its name. But what is truly memorable here are the large schools of fusilliers and anthias flitting over the gorgeous soft corals and impressive table corals. In the deep blue, you may also see large tuna, mackerel and other fish schooling around a small mound to the northwest. A lone eagle ray is often spotted here cruising in the currents. Castle Rock: Castle Rock is a submerged pinnacle situated a kilometer north of Crystal Rock. Its exposed location means strong currents but experienced divers will love the thrills to be had on this dive. The main action comes from watching the staggering amount of fish such as batfish, groupers, midnight snappers and impressive schools of barracuda and surgeons whipping past. Of course, divers aren’t the only ones interested in the huge amount of fish here, which explains the giant trevally as well as whitetips, blacktips and grey reef sharks hunting around for their next meal. Cauldron: The channel between Gili Lawa Laut and Gili Lawa Darat forms a dive site with interesting topography. The dive starts with a drift along a sloping reef and sandy bottom. The shallows are extremely rich with fish. Bumphead parrots are common, and aggregate here to spawn every year around April. Sharks and schools of batfish also stay in the passage. Crocodile fish and lionfish hunt in the small schools of glassfish, and pygmies and frogfish live here as well eagle rays and reef sharks. The dive site then shallows out with the ‘bull ring’ circle opening out and ending in a flat rock plateau and offers a chance to see manta rays.
Following a light breakfast, you will dive at Batu Bolong (Hollow Rock), a world-class dive site in the north of the Komodo Strait. The dramatic underwater landscape with its great walls is home to an incredible variety of sea life and corals. Sharks, giant trevallies, unicorns, rainbow runners, turtles, barracudas and napoleon wrasse are spotted here frequently. Later in the day, you will enjoy Tatawa Besar, a thrilling drift dive that starts off from the northwestern tip of Tatawa and continues down the western side at a depth of 15 to 20 meters. The surrounding fish life is profuse and you will see an endless field of stunning orange soft corals as you glide along. Swim past coral heads inhabited by schools of sweetlips and batfish and look out for turtles feeding on the reef. Mantas have been encountered here as well. At Makassar Strait we can see mantas at their cleaning station. This is an exhilarating drift dive along the shallow flat bottom interspersed with patches of coral reef, where there’s a chance to see manta rays, turtles, eagle rays and white tip and black tip reef sharks/ It’s also a great site for snorkeling.
After one more dive at Tatawa Besar th boat will sail to Tatawa Kecil, where we’ll dive in a beautiful coral garden with brisk currents, an unspoiled reef and unsurpassed topography comprising boulders, walls, overhangs and caves. This site is home to vast numbers of groupers, snappers and trevallies. The west side of this small rocky outcrop presents a fantastic underwater terrain with enormous slabs of rock that have been worn down to form channels, canyons, caves and swim-throughs. On the north plateau crocodile fish lie on the scenic reef alongside a host of reef fish and schooling barracuda. After the dive, the boat will cruise to Siaba Besar and moor offshore for the night. The white beach of Mauan is the perfect place for a sunset barbecue.
Pantai Merah, or Pinky Beach, is the most frequently visited site in the park. Snorkeling from the beach is excellent, and there is a good dive around a rock that breaks the surface but is completely covered at high tide. There as a great variety of tame fish life here, and a good selection of critters including leaf scorpionfish, blue-ribbon eels, crocodile fish, and nudibranchs. This site is also good for night dives. The next dive site is Batu Tiga lying southeast of Tanjung Kuning in the Linta Strait. An excellent big fish dive and without doubt one of the most current-affected sites in Komodo, this dive is for more advanced and experienced divers. It’s crucial to hit the site at the perfect time, preferably at the northwestern side of the three rocks (Batu Tiga is three rocks in Bahasa Indonesia). The rewards are many! A rocky reef extends below the surface out towards Komodo; most of the coral growth here is stunted due to the strong prevailing currents. Down in the deeper water to the west and below the reef, big boulders offer excellent habitat for grouper and other creatures. Large grouper, mantas, giant trevally and other pelagics are frequently seen here. In the afternoon you’ll arrive to one of Komodo’s main non-diving jumping points, Rinca Island. Here, you’ll hike for up to two and a half hours to see the legendary prehistoric lizard Komodo Dragons. After that excursion the crew will drop anchor at Bat Island, where thousands of flying foxes make their home in the mangrove forest. The sight of these magnificent bats taking off from the trees at sunset is truly amazing.
The boat will sail back to Sebayor Island where you’ll enjoy yet another amazing snorkeling site before reaching the harbor of Labuan Bajo. Unfortunately our trip has come to an end and we have to say goodbye, but we hope to see you again soon!

Welcome drink During the journey to our first dive site for a check dive, please take this opportunity to familiarize yourselves with the vessel and make yourself comfortable. Check muck dive at Teluhu Bay. The Intensity of marine life here is unrivalled; critters benefit from the nutrient-rich currents pushing into this bay but are still protected by sheltered waters in the many small coves. This unique combination creates conditions that nourish an incredible eco system, making it one of the richest and most interesting places to dive. In the late afternoon we’ll set sail for the Banda Islands. Please Note: This is a sample itinerary and nº of dives, dive sites, etc. may be subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforseeable factors
Early morning, arrive at the beautiful Ahmet Reef in Nusa Laut. Here, the locals have introduced sustainable methods to protect their reef and their efforts have produced great results. Dive at Nildesperandum and at Karang Duisburg where white tips and reef sharks patrol the depths, playful turtles can be spotted and in October and November, it’s not unusuaal to dive with Hammerhead sharks. You might also choose to visit the fort and the waterfall here, or sail to Pulau Molana for one more wall dive. The shallow wall breaks in places and in the sandy slopes, ribbon eels, small pipefish and moray eels can be found. Above the reef, turtles are seen feeding in the beautiful coral garden.
Early morning we’ll sail to Pulau Run to dive at Tanjung Noret, Tanjun Lokon and Pulau Nailaka, all great locations with white sandy slopes interspaced with large coral heads and healthy reefs. This region is full of unexplored dive sites and the Banda Sea is the perfect location for the discovery of new underwater treasures. This tiny island has a fascinating history too; in 1667, the English traded Run for New Amsterdam (now Manhattan), giving the Dutch full control of the Banda archipelago and the nutmeg trade.
Very few divers witness the true nature of Pulau Ai’s unspoilt reef – a secret in the middle of the Banda Sea reached by live-aboard only. This area acts as an oasis for pelagics that cruise by these pristine hard coral reefs cloaked in clouds of fish – Napoleon wrasse, green and hawksbill turtle, tuna, rainbow runner, huge schools of barracuda mixing with schools of bannerfish, redtooth triggers and fusiliers. Batu Payung, Umbrella Rock, is named for the many overhangs along the island walls, which divers can drift along and enjoy the view of thousands of tiny reef fish darting in and out of the cracks and crevices. We’ll also have a night dive at Mandarine City.
The Banda area offers a good variety of dive sites. Volcanic rocks at Pulau Pisang create a deep swim-through which you can drift through and view the sponge-covered wall on the other side, perhaps spotting Moral eels at the top of the wall as well as schools of bumphead parrotfish. Dive at the black sand of Batu Kapal in Banda’s harbour, a submerged pinnacle, breaking the surface of the water in the shape of a boat which offers muck diving with flying gurnards spreading their electric blue wings, sea moth, nudibranchs and mandarin fish. Various types of fish are present here in vast numbers, along with huge gorgonian fans and some truly monumental sponges. In Banda Neira you will have the chance to explore the historic and cultural legacies of the fables islands, center of the former lucrative spice trade. Wandering through the town you’ll observe the Dutch colonial architecture which remains to this day, as well as Fort Belgica with its incredible views overlooking the bay
Once known as Rozengain, Pulau Hatta is a stunning flying-saucer-shaped island of jungle-swathed limestone, trimmed with white sand. It offers some of the finest underwater panoramas, and is considered one of the best snorkeling in the world. Long white beaches edged with swaying palms, unspoilt reefs, and superb diving at the Hatta Arch, Takat Hatta Reef and Tj Buton, make Hatta everyone’s favorite destination.
Koon is a small island located at the east-south bound of Seram Island, north of the Banda Sea. It is also called ‘Too Many Fish’ because for the unbelievable number of fishes that hang out in the current at the reef corner. (According to a WWF survey, Koon is projected to be the biggest coral fish breeding spot in eastern Indonesia.) After diving we might pay a visit to one of the traditional villages, then following a leisurely dinner we’ll set sail for Misool.
After sailing for about 15 hours we’ll arrive at Misool. Here, we’ll decide where to dive day by day depending on the weather and sea conditions and, of course, following your personal wishes. The island of Misool has some of the best diving in Raja Ampat, with several reefs that can be considered the best in the world! A labyrinth of thousands of small mushroom-shaped islands form tiny dots of lagoons with sparking white sand surrounded by extensive formations that make the Misool one of the most wonderful places on Earth. The land scenery will take your breath away as will the underwater scenery that holds some of the richest wildlife in the world. There are three main areas of interest for diving in Misool – the Sagof-Daram, the Southern Archipelagos in the south-east corner of Misool and the Blue Water Mangroves near the western tip of the main island. In Daram we’ll dive at Andiamo which is a large, stunning reef with a submerged pinnacle covered in sea fans surrounded by schools of fusiliers and bat fish, black tip reef sharks and napoleon wrasse. The Candy Store dive site is covered with huge sponges, beautiful soft corals, sea fans and, in the valleys, schools of fusiliers, butterfly fish and barracuda, while at Andy’s Ultimate there is a valley which boils with fish when the current is running. In the Warakaratet area at Magic Mountain there are two cleaning manta stations on the same dive site, one at 25 meters and one right at the top at seven meters. This is one of the only places in the world where you can see oceanic mantas as well as reef mantas interacting. Magic Mountain is also a nursery for White Tip Reef Sharks and a love nest for Napoleon Wrasse. Boo Rock is known for the “windows” on the end of the largest rock that completely pierces the reef from the surface down to five meters deep. Here you can see an incredible variety of fishes, gorgonians, Barrel sponges, Commensal shrimps, a wide variety of Nudibranchs, Octopus and Green Turtles, patrolling sharks as well as Wobbegong Shark. Nudi Rock is a small island in the Fiabacet chain, crowded with larger pelagics like Barracuda, Big Eyed Travelly, and Grey Reef Shark, with a wide range of flamboyant nudibranchs lurking among the abundant soft corals and sea fans well populated by pygmy seahorses and cowries. In the Wayilbatan area at the Neptune dive site, schools of batfish, trevallies, barracuda and pygmy seahorses congregate amongst the most spectacular hidden lagoons in the region. This site has sheer walls paved with very colorful sea fans, some of which host tiny seahorses, Hippocampus Barbiganti. The Four Kings dive site is made up of four underwater pinnacles covered in soft coral and colorful tunicates, with many turtles. Close to Four Kings we can dive at Orange Peel, a fantastic orange wall with a coral garden. Dunia Kecil is a superb dive site for spotting pygmy seahorses and ‘lady bugs’. Hawksbill turtles, crocodile fish, barramundi cod and juvenile cuttlefish are amongst the other marine creatures that can all be found here. Kaleidoscope is one of the best dive sites in the world, loping down from the limestone island of Jef Pele. On one side you will find an amazingly beautiful coral covered wall with tons of fish, and on the other side is a picture-perfect slope. Between the two there is a great dividing lip, where large pelagic species feast in front of you as you hang on to your reef hook through the prevailing currents. Another great dive site of this area is Turbine. The Farondi area – a unique and distinctive landscape: tunnels, caverns, and colorful walls – offers three famous dive spots, Goa Besar, Razonback Rock and Three Sisters. Goa Besar comprises shallow shelved gardens of yellow-colored soft corals, wall tops blanketed with plate corals, leather corals, yellow and purple sea squirts, and rounded hollows filled with coral shrubberies, sponges and red ornamental ghost pipefish. Three Sisters provides three great dive sites paved with life, as do the channels between them. Wolbolol offers multiple dive sites, Portion Nine, No Contest and The Plateau where you’ll see schools of barracuda and jacks, snappers and bump head parrotfish all over around the pinnacles.
For our last diving day, two other famous and fabulous dives in the Dampier strait, Chicken reef and sardine reef. The boat will then sail back to Sorong where it will arrive during the evening.

During the journey to our first dive site for a check dive, please take this opportunity to familiarize yourselves with the vessel and make yourself comfortable. Check muck dive at Teluhu Bay The Intensity of marine life here is unrivalled; critters benefit from the nutrient-rich currents pushing into this bay but are still protected by sheltered waters in the many small coves. This unique combination creates conditions that nourish an incredible eco system, making it one of the richest and most interesting places to dive. In the late afternoon set sail for the Banda Islands.
You’ll dive at Nildesperandum and at Karang Duisburg where white tips and reef sharks patrol the depths, playful turtles can be spotted and, in October and November, it’s not unusuaal to dive with Hammerhead sharks. Visit the fort and the waterfall here, or sail to Pulau Molana for one more wall dive. The shallow wall breaks in places and in the sandy slopes, ribbon eels, small pipefish and moray eels can be found. Above the reef, turtles are seen feeding in the beautiful coral garden.
Early morning you’ll sail to Pulau Run to dive at Tanjung Noret, Tanjun Lokon and Pulau Nailaka, all great locations with white sandy slopes interspaced with large coral heads and healthy reefs.
You’ll also have a night dive at Mandarine City.
You’ll also dive at the black sand of Batu Kapal in Banda’s harbour, a submerged pinnacle, breaking the surface of the water in the shape of a boat which offers muck diving with flying gurnards spreading their electric blue wings, sea moth, nudibranchs and mandarin fish. Various types of fish are present here in vast numbers, along with huge gorgonian fans and some truly monumental sponges. In Banda Neira you will have the chance to explore the historic and cultural legacies of the fables islands, center of the former lucrative spice trade. Wandering through the town you’ll observe the Dutch colonial architecture which remains to this day, as well as Fort Belgica with its incredible views overlooking the bay.
(According to a WWF survey, Koon is projected to be the biggest coral fish breeding spot in eastern Indonesia). After diving you might pay a visit to one of the traditional villages, then following a leisurely dinner you’ll set sail for Misool.
After sailing for about 15 hours you’ll arrive at Misool. Here, you’ll decide where to dive day by day depending on the weather and sea conditions and, of course, following your personal wishes.

You can expect to dive a diverse selection of sites, including a busy manta cleaning station, coral covered walls, reef flats, swim throughs, gentle sea mounts, drift dives, vast hard-coral gardens, placid lagoons, and current-raked pinnacles. Visibility is variable but generally 25+ meters The topography shifts from a gentle slope to steep wall, festooned with colourful soft corals, huge gorgonian sea fans, and sea squirts and tunicates in a multitude of sizes and shapes. Careful inspection of the many rocky outcroppings, coral bommies, and overhangs is always rewarded with a treasure. A close look at Muricella and Annella sea fans often reveals the elusive Bargibanti and Denise pygmy seahorses. Large and colourful crinoids often cling to the fans as well, hosting a menagerie of colour-coordinated cling fish, crinoid shrimp, and arrowhead crabs. You'll have a good chance of seeing the stunning Mandarin Fish, who make their appearance just before sunset. A little patience will be rewarded with a display of their wildly psychedelic courtship ritual. We also regularly spot the newly-discovered 'walking' Epaulette Shark in the shallows, scooting along with their pectoral fins and hunting for their next meal. You'll also find innumerable species of nudibranchs and flatworms. It's not unusual to spot up to 10 different species of nudibranchs and flatworms on a single dive. Particularly well suited to photographers and those who enjoy observing unusual animal behaviour. Inspect holes in the sandy substrate and you may find the unlikely duo of goby and shrimp. Dive sites Nudi Rock is a small island in the Fiabacet chain, which looks an awful lot like a nudibranch from a distance. Just a quick 5-minute speed boat ride from the jetty, this site is a must for critter enthusiasts and macro photographers. True to its name, you'll find a wide range of flamboyant nudibranchs lurking among the abundant soft corals. The sea fans are well populated with pygmy seahorses and cowries. Be sure to inspect the abundant crinoids for their colour-coordinated arrowhead shrimp and cling fish. When currents allow, this site is also popular for its pinnacles crowded with larger pelagics like Barracuda, Big Eyed Travelly, and the odd mature Grey Reef Shark. The sloping shallows of Nudi Rock are stunning for wide angle shots with exquisite colours and hard coral gardens. Magic Mountaint is a busy Manta ray cleaning station. The submerged pinnacle reaches up to about 7 meters, and you have a very good chance of seeing not one by two species of manta rays here - both the giant Oceanic birostris as well as the smaller reef manta, alfredi. Magic Mountain is also a nursery for White Tip Reef Sharks and a love nest for Napoleon Wrasse. Because this site is completely exposed to oceanic currents, you can expect to see large schools of pelagics in the blue. The huge island of Yillet stretches east to west. This island used to be home to an itinerant shark finning camp, and we are pleased by the stunning resurgence of life on its surrounding reefs, including sharks. One of Yillet's tiny satellite islands is particularly rich and topographically weird. The tiny island has been undercut by untold millenia of wave action, forming an umbrella over a sloping underwater plateau with numerous spooky overhangs and cavelets. Diving with a torch is highly recommended for this site - you'll want to illuminate the dark corners of this site to see all the critters, as well as the wild colours. Barramundi cod and Hawksbill Turtles frequent this site. We also suggest you keep a sharp eye on the blue, as huge schools of barracuda hover in formation. Boo Windows is one of our most famous dive sites, named for its unique topography, with 2 swim-through 'windows' carved into it. The South West face of this site is quite steep and exposed to current, so you are likely to see patrolling sharks as well as the elusive Wobbegong Shark - be sure to look under the massive table corals! When the currents are right, we'll move off towards a large pinnacle in the blue. The pinnacle is often surrounded by pulsating schools of fusiliers and gangs of plate-sized Batfish. Heading back towards the Windows, notice how the sunlight filters through - it's like nothing else on earth! We'll follow the plateau of hard plate corals and look for Sweetlips hiding underneath. Be sure to investigate the huge Barrel Sponges - their crevices often conceal Hairy Squat Lobsters.
Unfortunately our trip has come to an end and we have to say goodbye, but we hope to see you again soon!
