★ 3.52 guest reviews
★ 3 · Peter Walker-Smith · 2018-03-21Boat Pros: Good food (bearing in mind it is a liveaboard and what they have to work with), really good service - particularly from the boat crew Boat Cons: Cabins not the most comfortable (aircon pretty hit-and-miss), lots of flying insects throughout the trip (they really need to purchase some insecticide and use this once the boat leaves port) and not very camera friendly. Also there are a lot of "extras" to be paid on top of the standard boat price. Language: The ability to speak German is very strongly advised. As an English guest, this proved difficult at times. Diving: Good but not spectacular - saw hammerheads on quite a few occasions (even if often 35m+ deep) and lots of other large fish (barracuda, turtles, napoleon wrasse, large groupers, humphead parrotfish, etc) but not sure the diving is worth the extra cost/journey time vs Egypt.
★ 4 · Gabor Tamas · 2018-03-05Dominator is beautiful vessel and a good choice for the Southern Red Sea. The boat does not have lateral stabilizers, thus it is a bit susceptiple to rough seas, but opt for a lower deck cabin and you will be fine. When choosing your cabin specify that you require one of the cabins towards the bow, the engine noise can be a problem towards the aft. On the same note, the generators are noisier compared to the best boats I have been to, this can interfere with your naps in between dives... Diving itself is fine in Sudanese waters, like Egypt used to be 15 years ago. The potential is certainly there, you just have to be lucky with the currents (no pelagics without) and hope that the thermoclines are above 40 meters in case you are interested in hammerheads. Overall a good price performance service; it is not an expensive boat and you have to travel to the Maldives/Pacific to have significantly better chances to see more action.
