Scubaversity

Since 1993, Scubaversity has grown into Johannesburg's largest PADI 5-Star Career Development Centre and, in its own words, "the Tribe" — a community of over 3,000 divers who share braais, road trips, and lifelong friendships. Located in Roodepoort, it's a purpose-built dive club where the diving is a lifestyle as much as a sport.

Courses and facilities

The centre trains everyone from first-timers to future professionals, with the PADI Open Water Diver course completed in just three days. From there you can progress through Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and full Instructor Development Courses, alongside freediving, snorkelling, and more than 50 specialties — guided by a team of over 50 instructors and a 54-strong PADI Instructor roster.

Under one roof you'll find a custom-built 17 m × 12 m training pool up to 5 m deep, four lecture rooms, a showroom and rental centre, and an air and Nitrox fill station. Local trips head to Bass Lake, with tuition offered in English and Afrikaans — ideal for divers who want a genuine home base rather than just a school.
