About Barefoot Retreats and Leisure Pvt. Ltd.
Established in 2005, Barefoot Scuba is the first and longest-standing PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre and Resort in the Andaman Islands. Set on Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep), the dive centre runs a comprehensive operation—six speedboats customised for diving, a filling station, an equipment servicing facility, plus a library and classroom to support divers at every level, from beginners to professionals.
Personalised diving, not a dive factory
Barefoot consciously avoids the crowded "dive-factory" approach, keeping a low diver-to-professional ratio with a team of 12 PADI Instructors, Divemasters and DSD Leaders. With 3 languages spoken and a house reef on the doorstep, it's well suited to those wanting attentive, well-supervised diving.
Certified divers can join fun dives from USD 96, while the course range spans PADI Advanced Open Water, Deep Diver, Night Diver, Enriched Air, Digital Underwater Photographer and Emergency First Response. Local sites include The Wall, Dixon's Pinnacle, Johnny's Gorge, Inchkeith Wreck and Nemo Reef, with marine life from sharks and turtles to eels, molluscs and corals.

★ 5 · Anand Vasudevan · 2010-01-27Did my basic open water course with Barefoot Scuba last year. This is the priciest shop in the Andamans but is value for money. Coaching was very professional, had one DM to two of us. I don't have experience of other shops to comment about the safety standards, but at no point did I feel safety was compromised. Equipment was clean/ well maintained, no dive boats were over crowded. The underwater scenery was great- Andamans have some great diving fields, going by what some of the more experienced divers had to say. One concern though is that there is no hyberbaric chamber anywhere in the Andaman Islands in case of emergencies. But I will rate the shop a 5 star. As a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development facility we adhere strictly to all PADI standards and would never compromise by sending out a DM to conduct your course.
